Individual profiles

It is quiet difficult to observe the personality of fish--because you have to watch them intently for a lengthy period of time. These Koi are rather jumpy so I do not want to desturb them like that at this point of there arrival, but I can say a few things. Goldey (top) was very hard to photograph and the picture does not do the her/his colour justice as s/he is orange/copper yellow color with silver and grey, almost likened to a calico cat, however, s/he shimmers. Ghost (small image) is definately the calmest of the three. S/he was easy going when transfered and does not go bolting into the glass and rocks as hard as the other two. Last, but surely not least!!, is Zorro below underneath Ghost's hind region. I think Zorro is likely a male because he is physically very powerful and can move with such force that I worry for his safety! You can see his zorro mask over the eyes, he is a beautiful blue grey with silver. Indeed a masked and elusive creature.
Jam Packed

I did not want to put the goldfish with the Koi, because I want the Koi to get comfortable with the least amount of comotion as they are finicky right now. As a result, the goldfish got a smaller home and there are a lot more of them (15 to my knowledge) in a ten gallon tank-so you can imagine that it gets pretty tight. Their filter must be cleaned every week and the water changed every two weeks to manage the waste they produce. They too will return to the summer pond.
Huddling in the corner
The Koi huddled in the bottom corner-The one on the left (Goldey), middle (Ghost) and right (Zorro) tend to stay at the bottom of the tank. Not sure why this is, but it may have something to do with them coming from a big pond. They are not used to the tank idea, but they will only be housed for the winter and then return to their home for the summer months again.
Petit Prince

The bird show yesterday-- and I was on the bird watch for a yellow canary. I found one that is not very hyper, but he sure is a good eater! He was so comfortable after arriving in his new home that he ate food within the hour. He is a very mild temperment and he does not scury fearfully around his cage like I was expecting a canary to be. Indeed he moves with grace and style just like a little prince...hence his new name Petit Prince (pronounced prence). So I think the person who sold him is a great beeder: BK Aviaries, email: avihouse@shaw.ca, Bjarne & Gudrun Knudskov.

Here today Gone tomorrow
Unfortunately my new spiderling did not live long enough to receive a name. Baby spiders are hard to take care of! S/he was eating a lot and had adequate moisture, but still failed to survive. The only thing that I can think of is that perhaps there was a microscopic fungus in the soil that plugged up the book lungs. Better luck next time!
